October Fest

Lees Summit is in the middle of Octoberfest and it's great entertainment for all. Loved walking around hearing all the kiddies scream as the rides raced by. The colors of the night and entertainment was loads of fun for all.

Socks

Today I had an opportunity to work with some clowns as they brought loads of joy to a bunch of children. Our church, Abundant Life Baptist Church ,had it's annual carnival where all the entertainment, drinks, hot dogs, candy, and cotton candy are free. It's just one of the many ways they reach out to the community. I took over 300 pictures of the children as they posed with my new friends. Here is some of their colorful garb.

2008 State Fair - Part 1

This year I did a first. I visited my first Fair in Sedalia, Missouri. Though I had a great time, it wasn't like the fair Ma and Pa Kettle visited in the movie "Ma and Pa Kettle at the Fair (1952)" It had a lot of activities, but seemed very commercial and lacking in animals.

Two days after the Missouri's Fair, I went to the Indianapolis State Fair, which was much more what I expected. I saw the worlds largest boar, acres of farm animals, and all types of cows and sheep. They demonstrated how to milk cows and shear sheep. I even saw a small bee farm!

Here's but a few photo's from the Fairs.

2008 Legacy Park Fireworks Display

This year will go down as one of the greatest 4th of July weekends we've ever had in Kansas City. In years past the weather has either been very hot or rainy. This year, however, was perfect and we had a great time. My son Drew and I took a few minutes drive up to Legacy Park in Lees Summit. Here's just a few photo's from the fireworks show.

Another Storm

Here we go again, another storm. Fortunately, nothing was damaged. With high winds blowing the rain diagonally across the sky, the lightning and thunder that accompanied was absolutely amazing. Like a song in loop mode, this scene went on for hours. Our yellow lab wasn't so intrigued though. It scarred the tar out of him.

Too lazy to get a tripod, I sat in a kitchen chair and rested the camera on the back of the chair. Camera mode was "bulb", "F4", and length of time the shutter was open, well that was just a guess.

Lees Summit 2008 Downtown Days

Friday we went to the Less Summit Old Times Day for some much needed rest and relaxation. For the entertainment we listened to Big Woody’s Blues Review and Monsters of Mock Tribute Bands - U2.

Here are a few pictures from the events.

Kemper Museum of Art

Here's a few pictures from my recent trip to Kansas City's Museum of Art.
Looks like the "Thinking Man" has a headache.

This was a fun picture to catch. I was standing inside the front glass door of the museum when a car from Kentucky stopped and this gal jumped out and resumed this pose. After someone in the car took her picture, they were off as fast as they arrived. They never had a clue I got her picture too!

What fun!!!

The Old Market

I travel a lot and had an opportunity to visit Omaha, Nebraska's Old Market. What a peaceful and lovely place to visit. My wife Nancy loves the photo of the window. It was an old fashion candy store and I can just picture a little child peeking in the window imagining how good the candy would taste.

My favorite is the old safe (top right). It reminds me of the Old West.
